Creators and activists utilize alternative buildings in the city to establish performance spaces, studios, galleries, clubs, and more. The use of old industrial buildings, warehouses, workshops, and obsolete factories evolves from an accessible solution into an act of preservation in its own right, breathing new life into these structures while maintaining their history and character. The material aesthetic of reuse and improvisation, as opposed to demolition and reconstruction, creates something that money cannot buy: authenticity.

The unique atmosphere created is a rare commodity that attracts audiences and generates activity, but it also creates a paradox: when a place succeeds and becomes attractive, developers arrive, and the authenticity created by the community is pushed aside. Ironically, a site's success may become the first step toward its disappearance.

In this Salon, we will examine the tension between the fringe and the establishment, asking: How can a municipality allow cultural activities growing from the bottom up to flourish in urban spaces and buildings? Does the connection between the need for these spaces to remain organic and anti-establishment and their "sentence of disappearance" also allow for institutional intervention to protect them? Within the framework of these questions, Revital Ben Asher Peretz will present the "1% for Art" bill currently being promoted.

The "Liebling Salon" of the Urban Research Lab at the Liebling Haus was established to bring to discussion issues related to preserving the spirit of Tel Aviv-Yafo, at a time when the city is changing rapidly before our eyes. These meetings aim to address current urban issues in the field, during a period when the city's historical layers take on new meaning and the tension between old and new is sharper than ever.
