Artist Merav Shinn Ben-Alon will discuss the visual research and creative process behind The Jewish Hospital in an intimate evening held within the exhibition space. During the event, Shinn Ben-Alon will host four creators, curators, and researchers—each engaging with her in a dynamic and in-depth dialogue from their unique perspectives about the exhibition and its creative journey.
Together, we will traverse the stations leading to the exhibition, deepen our understanding of the historical context of the Jewish community in Breslau, examine the significance of the exhibition within Liebling Haus’ approach to preservation, and discuss site-specific art, curatorial thought processes, and the intersection of art and poetics. Through these conversations, additional layers of the artist’s work will be revealed, shedding light on the different aspects of fracture that generate continuity (caesura) and the elusive presence of the past in the present.
At the core of The Jewish Hospital exhibition lies a visual study of two photographic bodies documenting the hospital—one from its inauguration and the other from its final closure and repurposing in 2015. Shinn Ben-Alon deconstructed and reassembled these images through cutting and rephotographing with various techniques, using collage methods that accentuate the fault lines—turning the exhibition spaces at Liebling Haus into a discourse site on fracture: caesura.
