Soundtrack: A Workshop in Urban Listening and Writing

In the workshop, we will practice deep listening together, tune our ears to different sound intensities, navigate and discover sonically, and reconnect with the movement of sound waves outside our bodies and back into them. The workshop will be accompanied by writing exercises during which we will move between direct documentation – flowing, automatic writing – and close writing that descends into the nuances of sound, and we will conclude with a short collection of texts documenting our listening experience.

This activity takes place as part of the exhibition Life, Plant, City: 100 Years of Geddes' Plan for Tel Aviv's Garden City. The exhibition explores the planning and social vision of Patrick Geddes, planner of the city of Tel Aviv and a multidisciplinary thinker who believed that the role of planning is to balance human needs with their environment.

To complement the exhibition, the School of the City at Liebling Haus is holding workshops on Tel Aviv-Yafo and our lives in the city through sensory experiences: observation, listening, dwelling, and imagination. The school offers an interdisciplinary approach developed by professionals from architecture, design, urbanism, and art.
