What is the role of exhibitions, curators, and architects in an era of climate crisis and ongoing uncertainty? Can an exhibition move beyond the limits of representation to shift how we think, plan, and act in space?

Exhibition curators Friedrich von Borries and Sabrina Cegla host Stephan Trüby and Galit Gaon for a conversation about curating architecture in the Anthropocene – an era in which questions of construction, nature, culture, architectural heritage, representation, imagination, and responsibility are no longer separate but intertwined.

The event takes place as part of the exhibition “Heritage of the Future,” a collective research project that grew out of a dialogue with 28 local architects. It invites us to rethink architecture itself: the role of the architect, the discipline, its modes of representation, and the ways it is mediated and understood. In the absence of models, plans, or renderings, the exhibition asks how to curate not only objects but also spaces for discourse, communication, memory, and shared futures.

The conversation will examine the potential and limits of curating architecture, the aesthetics of crisis, and the possibility of imagining – and perhaps beginning to reshape – a future reality.

The evening will begin with a short tour of the exhibition led by the curators, followed by a panel discussion in English.

Speakers:

Galit Gaon, Senior Curator at the Design Research Center and Head of the Curatorial Program in Museum Studies, Shenkar.

Prof. Dr. phil. Stephan Trüby, Professor of Architecture and Cultural Theory and Director of the Institute for Principles of Modern Architecture (IGmA) at the University of Stuttgart.

Moderated by the exhibition curators:

Friedrich von Borries, architect, writer, and Professor of Design Theory at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK).

Sabrina Cegla, architect, senior curator, and founding team member at Liebling Haus.
