A basic map, paper pad, pencil and apple: A workshop for geographic mapping through the senses

Revisiting Independence Garden: We will use our senses to rethink and reshape a familiar environment. We will learn to observe the world like architects and planners, understand their methods, and incorporate our imaginative visions into this space. No prior knowledge is required.

A basic map, a paper pad, a pencil, and an apple will help us explore and reconnect with Independence Garden through our senses. Together and individually, we will engage in various activities, such as measuring distances in steps, listening to the sounds around us, and mapping aromas.

We will document our findings on the map we received and reflect our personal preferences alongside collective ones. This way, we can determine which areas of the garden are "successful" and which are less so.

The methods we will practice in the workshop will help us understand how to "learn a place"—what makes us feel comfortable when we experience discomfort and what can be done to enhance that feeling. The workshop provides tools for exploring a place that can be used later in any location.

Guide: Arch. Dana Mor

The workshop is for adults; no prior knowledge is needed.

Meeting point: Center of Atarim Square.

Duration of the workshop: approximately 90 minutes.

This workshop is part of a community spring celebration at Independence Garden on April 25-26, organized by the Independence Garden Neighbors Community.
