When Sir Patrick Geddes drew his visionary plan for Tel Aviv in 1925, he imagined a city with a social spirit - a city of green boulevards, shaded streets, and public squares. He believed that public space is the stage of democracy - the place where community life, dialogue, and culture unfold.
A hundred years later, Geddes’ ideas feel more relevant than ever. As Tel Aviv and Israel at large face social, political, and environmental challenges, the city’s public spaces remain vital arenas for civic engagement. Parks, promenades, and plazas, the city’s lungs are not only places of leisure, but also where citizens meet, celebrate, mourn, and protest.
As part of the exhibition “Live, plan, City: 100 Years of Geddes’ Plan for Tel Aviv’s Garden City”, we invite you to a conversation with landscape architects Robin Winogrond (Zurich, Switzerland) and Yael Bar-Maor (Tel Aviv, Israel), both exhibiting artists. Together they will explore how urban design can strengthen community ties and encourage civic participation, drawing inspiration from experiences in Zurich and Tel Aviv.
