The Block
In the coming months, the "Hadira" residency will host the block program - a research and action group that brings together creators who combine design and multidisciplinary art in daily social action. The program, which takes place both as a study group and as a living laboratory with the participation of the audience, is an artistic action that aims to expand the concept of the urban block while investigating and observing through the content worlds from which they come. The purpose of the program is to create a change in the creative process of the participants alongside the development of practices and tools that will help planners and the general public to understand the concept. The Block Residency program takes place as part of Beit Liebling's ongoing practice of looking at the design elements of living spaces, the relationship between man and his environment, thinking based on the vision of the city of gardens which is at the core of Tel Aviv's planning.
The Garden City vision presents an ongoing aspiration to combine rural quality of life alongside a functional city and an active and vibrant urban fabric. Beyond the physical aspect, the vision also refers to economic and social aspects that complement a holistic concept of human relations and the environment in an urban society. From this concept, and in particular Geddes' plan for the city of Tel Aviv, we will refer to three standards that together make up the city of gardens: the residential building, the public garden, and the residential block.
The residency apartment in Beit Liebling regularly deals with questions of living in the city. As part of the block residency, we will deal with questions of ecosystems and sustainable relationships between those basic elements of the Geddes program and between them and the city's residents.
