Life

Sharon Golan-Yeron, Beit Liebling's content manager, hosts the architect Manuel Hertz of Basel for a conversation about architectural typologies and the role of architecture in a controversial social-political environment.
Hertz recently completed the synagogue in Babi Yar in Ukraine and the maternity home and children's ward at Tambakunda Hospital in Senegal. The Jewish community center of Mainz in its design is considered a new standard in the architecture of synagogues. His office is also involved in planning the synagogue of Cologne, a large hospital in Senegal and other projects around the world. Hertz previously taught at Harvard University and ETH Zurich and is currently a professor at the University of Basel. He has published books dedicated to his research on the relationship between architecture and migration and modern architecture in Africa.
