Why are the liveliest places in the city always on the verge of disappearing?
Warehouses, workshops, and abandoned industrial buildings have, in recent years, been transformed into performance venues, studios, galleries, and clubs. These places were not born out of urban planning, but out of necessity, improvisation, and communities building something on their own. But then success arrives. The crowds grow, the area becomes more expensive, developers move in, and the very thing that made the place feel alive in the first place begins to disappear.
At an event held on May 25, 2026, we brought together the people running these spaces and representatives from the municipality for a conversation about a question that is becoming more urgent in cities around the world:
Is it possible to preserve independent culture without destroying it in the process?
