Building a new country
Sharon Golan-Yiron, the content manager of Beit Liebling, hosts Dr. Segal Davidi for a lecture on the first female architects who worked in the Land of Israel.
Davidi will focus on the practice of Gertrude Goldschmidt, who immigrated to Israel in 1924, and was the second woman to work here as an architect, and one of the first to bring modernist architecture to Israel. Despite this, her name and work have been erased from the historiography of architecture in the Land of Israel, and her works are sometimes even associated with other architects. In the lecture, Davidi will reveal Goldschmidt's pioneering work during the Yishuv period, and the influence of Zionist ideas and cultural and gender aspects on her development as an architect and her work in the Land of Israel.
