Jaffa Mon Amour

Jaffa is a complex array of anonymous buildings. Some of them can be identified and defined according to canonical criteria of stylistic affiliation, and the greater part are the stylistic product of more complex mixtures. Most of them do not take part in the contemporary architectural culture and discourse, but function as ordinary buildings that make up a city, for their architectural deformations and mutations. The research before you, which we started in 2015, documents an ongoing investigation by the conservation department about Jaffa and South Tel Aviv (quarters 7/8). We surveyed 700 buildings in the south of the city, which are designated for preservation. The cataloging process traces the deformation mechanisms between the known definitions and will create a set of representative examples of the Hippoic architecture.
