Block Gardens in the Geddes Plan for Tel Aviv
In recent years, much has been written about the urban planner Patrick Geddes and his plan for the city of Tel Aviv from 1925. While in the second half of the 20th century he was seen as an original but marginal figure in modern urban planning, in recent years his unique vision of the relationship between society, nature, and the city has been reexamined. From Geddes' plan for Tel Aviv, this study focuses on the "pocket gardens" scattered throughout the city and hidden between the blocks. These introspective plots of open space embody Geddes' "Garden City" vision better than any other component of the plan. From the research laboratory: City of Gardens / Ed.
